IRONWOOD ART - HANDCRAFTED SCULPTURES Antiques Of The Future - The creation of this fine art is attributed to the Seris Indians of the state of Sonora, Mexico. Ironwood or "Palo Fierro" as the name accurately suggests, is one of the densest wood that can be carved, it sinks in water. Through difficult to cut, with machetes and hatchets, each piece is individually sculpted to create an original work, variants will be in style, grain and color. Young trees are not suitable for carvings - as they are brittle, and crack. Only dead trees can be used for this purpose. Click picture to show details OR Click description for smaller picture
