Aizu Lacquerware The origins of Aizu Lacquerware can be traced to 16th century AD Japan. It was first promoted as an industry by feudal Lord Ujisato Gamo in 1590. Master craftsmen skilled in woodworking and painting lacquer created this unique style. Since then this technique has been passed down in a direct line to the present. The elegant and polished lacquer-coated musical jewelry boxes reflect the traditional Aizu qualities of durability, strength and beauty.
